Later this year CoH is going free to play.
Previous subscribers can return as premium players and current subscribers will have VIP access, very similar to the LOTRO setup.
I can see this revitalising the game.
It seems to be working well on LOTRO and I have also read that Age of Conan is going down a similar route as well.

im not so sure, have you seen the restrictions that are being placed on it?

althought they are finally bringing in a brawler set that looks good, only taken 7 years for them to get to it mind

looks like October for the CoH Freedom release.

I work with a lot of the guys who manage the marketing around LOTR etc. Seems that's the way MMO's are going, it's a far more lucrative model for them to allow you to play it free but pay extra cash to progress faster.

Obviously if it's a sub model they don't get any extra revenue from you whether you're playing 40 hours or half an hour a week.
