Anyone thinking of trying this out?
Kinda like massively multiplayer tribes... don't imagine it'll have the same "lock you in forever" like DAoC but might be fun to pop over to for an evening every so often...

I have been on the Beta for a few months now And here are my impressions:
Its a lot of fun to begin with, but it does get monotonous after a few weeks (picture playing a never-ending game of capture the flag). There are no variations on the theme - you have to capture the enemy's bases, and defend your own. You can be a sniper, infiltrator, tank driver fighter pilot etc etc and you can change from one to the other with little fuss. You dont gain new skill with every new level as such, but the level you are determines the amount of specialisations you can have i.e. higher levels will have more certifications meaning they can be more versatile (a sniper AND a pilot AND a trooper AND a hacker etc etc..). You dont have to reach a certain level to be affective at something which is pretty good, so you can be as good as anyone else from the first time you use a certification.
The problem is variety... or the lack thereof; its capture that base, defend this base, capture that base, defend this base, capture that base, defend this base (im sure you get my point).
Needless to say, im playing the beta while its free, but I wont be playing it once I have to pay for it... plus, it will be £25 a month... a bit steep if you ask me.
Bottom line, its like 24 hour RVR with guns, but no tasks, quests, or PVE to break the monotony.

I cannot get ovet the idea that if you do not play it 24/7 then you will be seen as some sort of plague. Just have this image of pepole shouting at me
wtf i said to kill the assian on he left not the one in the middle
or words to that effect, or you will find it hard to get grps or at least effect grps.

Guilds are called Outfits fingo m8.
And remember DaOC took a while to get all their content in like the dragons and everything else. So it will take planetside some time to get going, and remember planetside isnt trying to be a RPG its just fragging people in a really big enviroment. Which TBH i like it has aspects of FPS and MMO which i think will make a good game.
Sure it aint every1's cuppa tea, but its mine.
The devs actually listen to their player base, they even implimented a major change to the game which a player suggested whislt still in beta.
Now how long does it take the mythic devs to impliment something their player base wanted......
And also they have tried to balance everything, but not to the fact that different 'realms' are the same.
It will probs only last me about 5-6 months, but then more info about trails of atlantis might be out, so ican see if i still want to play DaOC.
Comments please, wanna get a good debate going on this.

And you can do stuff like that in beta
as the numbers increase the reactionary whines to ANY change (proposed or implemented) get bigger and bigger...
Mythic are actually quite good sounds like this lot are quite decent too...
yeah "no content" is something every new game suffers from.
I'll maybe give it a shot anyway.
