Elite is still the greatest game ever. Jet Set Willy and Matchday get special honours.

ok for example call of duty 2 ,the next quake, halo 2 ,the total war series ,supreme commander (which is total anihalation2)
there just rehashed games with the latest graphics even oblivion

the point im making is were the hell are the original ideas these days 1 cant rember and original game been released for years

It depends on what you class as original as well I guess. Stuff like the gravity gun in HL2 was pretty cool, though FPS's are pretty much all the same these days in some respect - but thats like saying all action movies are the same - it just depends on how good or bad it is that makes it enjoyable.

Try some freeware games or stuff like Uplink / Darwinia etc if you want something more new and original.

Also rag-doll Kung-fu on steam is supposed to be good - never played uplink btw, just read lots of good things - have probably played abuot 6 games in the last 3yrs myself....

erm....

oo yeah played a little bit of Quake 4 and about 30 mins of Farcry, got Stalker but never got around to installing it...and thats about it I think...

i bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R and titan quest and i was really really really disappointed, i couldn't believe how bad they were.
Stalker apart from amazing graphics was pretty much an HL2 rip off and Titan quest was just a poor mans diablo 2 with the same graphics!

There are 1 or 2 games i am eagerly awaiting, one being assasins creed but that will be bought on the xbox 360.... i'm hoping its going to have the same game play style as prince of persia- 2 thrones beacuse that was a truely awesome game and looked great on the ps2

I was looking forward to Hellgate London til I found out they are now planning on making it subs based if you want the full experience

Crysis looks spectacular and am looking forward to giving it a whirl.

Other than that, not enough time even to finish HL2 - havent even reinstalled it since rebuilt my PC few mnths ago - all thats installed game wise now is Lotro I think..

I have only played four or five games in the past three years and they were all of the same genre (Dungeon Siege II style) and I am quite glad they still make this type of game - uncomplicated hack 'n slash ftw .

It's quite hard to think of new game genres though - most of it has already been done or probably isn't worth doing.

Also, gamers are a generally young audience - so that's the market the publishers are aiming for. Who cares about the odd over 30 who has already played umpteen FPS games when there is a zerg of 15-year-old with loads of cash to spend?

I really loved Company of Heros last year, we played the multiplayer for ages "I need a gunna und a loader!"

Other than that castlevania on the DS lite is the only game I've bought in the last year.

Codemasters will be releasing Overlord in a couple of weeks (XBOX360 and PC). This looks quite interesting - a demo is available from the website.

hehe sounds a bit like dungeon keeper= which for me was one of the best games on the pc EVER!

hehe yeah keeper was sooo funny loved droping demons on the stinkin good guys ....evil FTW !!!!!!!!!!!!!one!!!!!!!

yeh i managed to get 3 of the lords in the last level converted to evil side muahahha! then i just unleashed them on all the good guys and let them run amuck!
dungeon keeper 2 for me was a huge disappointment!

ok looked at em all and tbh i liked the look of jiggs auggestion, so i read a few reviews and dl'ed the demo .
played demo once and went out and bought company of hero's
its basically warhammer 40k with WW2 units , but unlike warhammer 40k which is dog shit it works for coh cracking game.

Ah now I know it - I was never fussed on the top down room to room type games for some reason - though saying that I am sure there's probably one or two I have forgotten that were mint...

Those little guys were nutters - and the game theme tune sticks in my head as fresh today as the first time I played....
