PC Botting up on timer?
Anyone have any idea how I could get my PC to boot up at a specified time?
Had a web browse and cant find much other than some mobo's can be set in BIOS - but mine isnt one of them it seems

I thought of that - but how do I get around no-one being there to push the actual boot up button on the PC?Talifer wrote:Buy one of those timer plugs, a lot of PC will boot as they get power Just make sure it isn't set to go off mid way though using it

Some machine will just boot when they get power. My machine does, easy to test power it down switch it off at the wall, then switch it on at the wall and see if it boots.
This can be annoying when you are just fiddling with the internals, power off... fiddle... plug power back in race to keyboard before it gets past post... damn!

Hmmm not sure, BIOS scares me tbh... Any idea where it would be in there? If not don't worry I will have a browse, but if someone knows it would make my trawling a lot safer for my PC's life!Ghengis wrote:is there a setting in bios to bypass the power switch?

The option will likely detail what you want the PC to do when it returns from a power outage (ie the switch at the wall plug is turned on or power comes back after a power cut). Usually the options are something like:
- Power On
- Stay Off
- Resume last state
Try googling for 'schedule resume from hibernate' or 'schedule resume from stand-by' to find applications that do this for you.
It's not entirely what you want, since your PC won't be really 'off', but it's as close as you can get if your BIOS doesn't support booting from a powered down state.

Writing a virus for a Mac is like invading Greenland. You could but why the hell would you want to?
