wanted in London...

Post by Lorthania »

Hi all,

I am coming to London in November and to lighten up my stay, I would like addresses for the following:

- a good pub
- a good Chinese restaurant
- a good fish 'n chips shop
- and did I mention: a good pub? :)

Preferably in Central London...

tia for suggestions...

Heh, I'll check that one out then :).

The reason I asked is that we usually end up scampering down the streets of London while it's raining cats and dogs to end up in the one pub in London that has a barman who only takes orders in rhyming slang, serves beer that smells like the guild house of 'Trolls United' and is full of locals with a strange squint in their eyes. No offense, of course :-).

Therefore, I thought I'd ask for recommendations from people I can trust a bit more than the average review site on the Net :-).

Grtz,

Going to Covent Garden on a Saturday afternoon proved to be a huge mistake anyway... it's like a stampede in there and you have to walk to Leicester Square to get back in the tube :(

But London was great once more - this city never disappoints me. We ended up in a pub just off the Oxford Circus tube station, nice place, crap beer tho :)

I found it while my wife was wandering around the Laura Ashley store :-). It's in the first street parallel to Regent Street (same side as the LA store), just around the corner from the tube exit. It has wooden/glass panels to make for separate booths, cosy place... Can't remember the name tho :(

(best pubs for pickup)

Chinese: Good or Bad? decent chinese, china town, just off Leicester square or nottinhill aint to nad either, absolutely WTFPWND chinese food: Hakkasan, 2 michelin stars ( the highest rated chinese food in tehworld)

heh I see people have different ideas for what makes a "good pub"

Myself I like gothic surroundings and good music... good beer (wide selection of either funny foreign bottled stuff - not just lager, or cask ales) etc. is also a major point (rare to find both in the one pub though)

Dafft's obviously after a good place to pull.

I imagine if we both went to "a good pub" the other would be horrified ;)

Jekyll and Hyde is nice :) though the beer selection could be better...

they do nice cocktails though :)

Centraal has the beer but it's a bit trendy-bar-like...

Been to Hakkasan a few times, and the food isn't as impressive as the bill will suggest. A place to say you've been, rather than anything else. Cheap and cheerful Chinese has to be anywhere around Gerrard Street, really: Just look for the bright orange roast ducks in the windows...

We ended up in a place called Aauru or something similar and we weren't disappointed: good food and not overpriced. It was in a traffic free zone off Gerrard Street if I remember correctly or close to it anyway... Indian food we got at Maharaja on Queensway, we had been there before. Didn't get round to fish 'n chips tho - that'll be for next time :-).

Hey, if you're rich you can afford Hakkasan, me I go to Mr Wing, best chinese restaurant in the area,

Gothic pubs; erm within the area that I live, we got two, The Blackwidow and Count Dracula( I think it closed) but for a nice relaxing atmosphere I'd go to O'Neils or to the Draycot Arms, those are my locals

(FYI: Im not out on tehpullfortehwin, but us youngsters, you know wat we are like.....tanked up on Viagra :great:
